Dr. Myron Pope, Ed. D.

Myron L. Pope has over 25 years of work experience as a supervisor, manager, and educator in a variety of roles in non-profit organizations in Alabama and Oklahoma. He has a passion for creating structures that are instrumental to student access and success in higher education. He enjoys taking large complex issues and simplifying them through open communication and collaboration. He also has a desire to assist individuals in developing a better understanding of themselves as leaders, and to help them reframe how they approach their work. 

As an academician, his research has focused on higher education related issues, including student success, community college student and administrative issues, faculty governance issues, institutional trust and risk, and resilience in students from underserved backgrounds. He also is involved with a number of initiatives targeted at increasing college admission, retention and graduation among youth in underserved/low-performing high schools in the Oklahoma City Metro. He has published also in scholarly journals and books on these topics. He has consulted, trained, and lectured throughout the United States and abroad on a variety of topics including leadership development, diversity initiatives in the workplace and society, higher education administration, team building, strategic planning, and college student success.

He currently serves on the board of the Urban League, the Edmond YMCA, the Oklahoma Blood Institute, and the board of the Institute for Evidence Based Change. He has been appointed by the governor on multiple occasions to serve on the Oklahoma Department of Human Services’ Commission and the Administrative Citizens’ Advisory Panel (served as the chair), and most recently, the Oklahoma Teachers’ Retirement System Board of Trustees. He has been active on the regional and national levels of several higher education professional associations, as well as serving as a consultant/evaluator with the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).  

He has been very active in the community in the past as a coordinator of Leadership Edmond, a volunteer sports coach with the YMCA, a volunteer with the Watch D.O.G.S. program at his children's school, and he has served as a board member for the Edmond Public Schools Foundation, the YMCA and the HOPE Center of Edmond. He was the Edmond Chamber of Commerce board chair in 2011. He is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. He is originally from Sweet Water, AL, but he resides in Edmond with his wife, Shanna, and their three children, Michael, Allison, and Isaiah.
